Crow Creek Sioux Tribe Receives Ambulance From Avera and State of South Dakota
The Crow Creek Sioux Tribe recently received an ambulance through a donation by Avera and the State of South Dakota at the Crow Creek Pow Wow in Fort Thompson.
“As part of the South Dakota Indian Health Care Initiative the State of South Dakota is pleased to partner with Avera and assist in improving health care for individuals on the Crow Creek Reservation,” said South Dakota Governor Mike Rounds.
The ambulance is ready for use by the Crow Creek Tribe. Sr. Mary Thomas, senior vice president of mission for Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center will make the presentation. “Having the proper equipment during a time of emergency is very important, said Sr. Mary. By providing this ambulance we hope to make a real impact on the emergency services available on the Crow Creek Reservation and, ultimately, to save lives.”
In the past seven years Avera has donated emergency equipment and ambulances to 10 different communities in South Dakota. The Crow Creek Reservation covers a three-county area in central South Dakota serving over 1,200 enrolled members.
