Free Meditation Workshop Offered

Dr. Michael McVay, Medical Director, of the Avera Center for MindBodySpirit will be offering a free workshop to explore and practice meditation from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27 in the Avera Professional Office Pavilion & Education Center.

Meditation is an ancient practice that cuts across different cultures, lands and spiritual traditions. Its simplest definition is the practice of uncritically attempting to focus your attention on one thing at a time. When practiced on a regular basis it can become a powerful skill to reduce stress and enhance well being.

In this free workshop participants will:

  • Learn about mindfulness meditation and how it can be used to counter stress and live a more balanced life.
  • Understand how meditation can be used to invoke the relaxation response which is a powerful physiologic counter to stress.
  • Understand how meditation is distinct from thinking, and how meditation practice can allow us to become aware of how our thinking mind may limit or free us.
  • Experience basic meditation practice such as sitting and walking meditation.
  • To register for this free program please call The Avera Center for MindBodySpirit at 605-668-8715.
