The 55-bed Avera Heart Hospital of South Dakota is the region's first and only Nationally Accredited Chest Pain Center.
Our specialized team for heart attack cases takes patients from arrival, to diagnosis, to life-saving balloon angioplasty treatment in less than 90 minutes in 100 percent of cases.
Our orthopedics program is the first in the state and the region to earn the Joint Commission Goal Seal of Approval™ for hip and knee replacement.
Our cancer program is approved by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer as a Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program with Commendation.
Avera McKennan's Emergency Department is a Level II Trauma Center, where the average "door to doctor" time is 20 minutes.
Avera McKennan's Stroke Center is first in the region to be certified by the Joint Commission.
Our Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit exceeds national database statistics in indicators such as oxygen requirements, pointing to better outcomes for critically ill newborns.
Our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit has excellent care indicators, such as being rated in the top 5 percent in a national database for morbidity, a zero rate of infections and pneumonias developed in the hospital, and a low complication rate with sedation services.

Since 1993, Avera McKennan has led the way in transplant services with the region's only bone marrow and pancreas transplant programs, and the region's longest-standing kidney transplant program. More than 500 solid organ transplants have been performed.
